2015 Collecting Goals

For a number of reasons, 2014 was a year that I won't be sad to see behind me.  Card-wise it was a good year, but it can be hard to really enjoy a hobby when you're in a toxic work environment that is making your life too stressful.  I lost some good friends in 2014, but am looking forward on closing the book and making this coming year much better.

I'm usually pretty good about hitting my hobby goals for the year, so we'll see how 2015 plays out.

1) Get more cards going out the door than come in.  I've been building up piles for just about everybody I regularly interact with in the blog world.  Whether it's a trade or just dropping a surprise on somebody, I want to make it a priority to get cards into good homes this year.  And perhaps as importantly, clear out some space in my boxes.  Everybody wins if I accomplish my goal for the year!

2) Finish the '98 Donruss Signature autograph set.  I'm about half way there right now.  It's just a matter of finding the cards I need at a price that feels right.

3) Reach 20% completion on one of the parallel sets I started - 2001 Donruss Stat Line and 2000 TC Refractors.  The Donruss set is smaller, but the refractors are a bit easier to find.  If there's one goal I don't meet, I'd bet good money this will be it.

4) Get to 14,500 Pirate cards.  I'm sitting at about 13,600 right now, so this should be within reach.

5) Finish transitioning to binders.  I'm down to about 6 rows of Pirate cards that need put into pages, and a few hundred Steelers and Pens cards.

6) Build/finish 3 sets.  I build my needs lists for 2000 Topps, 2000 Chrome, 1993 Donruss, and 2000 Victory over the holidays.  2014 Stadium Club and 2013 Hometown Heroes are on my radar as well.  If I finish any three of those, I'd be thrilled.

7) Fund a larger portion of my collection through sales.  Not necessarily just cards.  There's so much stuff taking up space around the house, and it's wonderful to clear out space and bring in some extra cash at the same time.

8) Spend less time searching for new cards and more time enjoying the ones I have.

Here's to 2015.  I hope everyone has a great year, both collecting wise and personally.

  3. I've been working a lot on #5 as well. It is quite the process.

    1. It's been such a time consuming process, but I think I'm finally into the home stretch. I just keep telling myself that once the cards are in pages, it will save me a ton of time in organizing future pickups. But the sooner it's over the better.

  4. Happy New Year! Best of luck on your 2015 goals! 2014 was a pretty tough year for me too. Hopefully things will turn around for both of us this year.
